Thank you to Boston Globe for reporting news not commentary
Hello Michael Levensen,
Thank you for your excellent work. I challenged Michael Rush in 2008. He refused to participate in a debate, made false claims regarding why he did not agree to a political debate. It is my understanding, Rush continues to avoid candidate forums.
I am running again this year for the state representative seat in the 10th Suffolk District. I am in the process of organizing a candidate forum. Proposed the league of women voters co-host a forum with City of
Boston student leaders and other issue oriented non profits such as MassCare.
Three of the reasons why I am running:
Promote civic participation and voting
Establish integrated civic education K-college
Work hard to fight for an ethical, transparent political system.
Low Voter Turnout – Tufts Post Election Poll Results:
In the recent special election between Brown and Coakley, according to a Tufts University post election poll only 15% of 18-30 year old registered voters voted in the special election. Not enough voters especially young voters are going to the polls on election day. According to another Tufts post election poll, during the 2008 presidential election the youth vote did not surpass the 1972 youth vote when 18 year old voters voted for the first time. I have not read news reports addressing these post election surveys.
We may be interested in critically evaluating politics and public policy but the majority of registered voters remain complacent and apathetic evidenced by low voter turnout in recent local elections. Encouraging to see the Globe publish election news rather than main stream commentary. Why does anyone vote for a candidate based on an advertisement?
Thanks again,
Pamela
