When Dan Shaughnessy sees little kittens, he kicks them

Today's column reminds Cyn why she can't stand the CHB, starting with him insulting, again, Ortiz and building up to blasting the Sox for the "hyporcrisy" of honoring Mike Lowell:

CHB, finding ways to insult absolutely everyone he writes about for centuries.

Contrast to this New York Times piece from a couple days ago: Gazing Up at First, Francona Can Hold His Head High.

If he's the author, I don't read the article....

Took me a minute though... That is very good.

Sorry, I can't figure it out. Presumably, "Cranky" something?

If you ever do figure it, let me know :(

Ex Sox slugger Carl Everett called him that after a game in response to Shaughnessy's negative articles (He said it to fellow globe writer Gordon Edes)

Well, Everett was kind of a nutcase too, but the name stuck.

That's... weird.

The Sox made it to the postseason only once between 1918 and 1967.

We are spoiled in this century. The Red Sox have made it to the postseason in six of the last seven seasons. There has been good ownership and good baseball.

Of course, between 1918 and 1967, there was no 'postseason', there was just the World Series. One team out of eight (or later, one out of ten) got to play in it.

Now with three divisions and the Wild Card, four teams out of 14 go to the 'postseason'. The Red Sox have been by far the biggest beneficiary of the Wild Card, having won 7 of the 15 awarded so far.
