Commish96 shot this last night. Lightning strikes on the Pru are actually relatively common, but always dramatic.

Audio recording of last night's storm
I made a 20 minute recording of the storm from Roslindale last night. Take a listen! http://www.katoarts.com/blog/2011/06/20-minute-rec...
I meant to submit this last night, but registration is taking a little too long :/
Lightning left me speechless
There was a huge strike when the storm actually hit Boston. I swear the lightning was hitting the Prudential for ten seconds. It was just like in the movies but much better!
I love thunderstorms, but I
I love thunderstorms, but I think had I been in the city this one would've scared the crap out of me.

I'm pretty sure there was a lightning strike around about twenty after five, I'm not sure if it's the one in this video. I was on Boylston near the Copley T station when the air turned white and there was loudest noise I've ever heard. Freaked me right out.
Pru lightning
I distinctly remember my first night living in Boston. It was in 2007, and I was living basically at Mass. Ave. and Boylston, with a window that faced the Pru. My apartment was about a half mile west of the building. It was a warm July night, with the windows wide open. In the middle of the night, I was awoken by a tremendous explosion.
"Oh, shit", I thought, "something just blew up". It wasn't raining, the wind wasn't blowing, and it had been a sunny day and calm night. I listened for sirens.
One of the longest minutes of my life later, the rain started. Then, the rest of the storm arrived. Only then did I realize that the explosion was thunder. It sure hadn't sounded like any thunder I'd heard before. It turns out that the Pru is so tall that it attracts lightning strikes a few minutes before the storm actually arrives.
This happened a few more times in the two years I lived there. I wonder how many other new residents had that same scare.
Lightning, big deal
Springfield was under attack by flying rectangles.
