Roving UHub photographer Charles Rosenberg forwards this photo from an encampment yesterday at the Jackson Homestead in Newton:
Soldiers marched, musket volleys echoed, and campfire smoke filled the air when the recreated 28th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry of the legendary Irish Brigade (which drew recruits from Newton and surrounding towns) descended on the Jackson Homestead for a Civil War encampment. Visitors witnessed military drills, strolled through the camp, learned about the lives of common Civil War soldiers, and talked with both men in the ranks and civilians who supported them on the home front.
