Based on the premise of that article, I would further speculate that Tim Murray isn't fit to ascend to the Gov seat and he knows it, so they arranged to get him out of Boston via this Chamber of Commerce appointment.
I'd be interested to see part 2 of this game of musical chairs: who will be Patrick's Lt. Gov when-and-if Deval vacates the Gov chair?
If the governor goes mid-term, the lt gov becomes acting gov. No one steps in to fill lt gov position. If lt gov goes mid-term, the position remains empty. If they both go, then sec of state steps in to become acting gov.
200K a year. I can't imagine it's very much work to run the Worcester Chamber of Commerce. Or any Chamber of Commerce for that matter. What does it take to organize a networking breakfast?
Actually, if done properly, it is a lot of work. Ironically, the best local example is Peter Forman, former Chief of Staff to Jane Swift, who runs the So. Shore Chamber. Economic development (with tangible results)is harder than it looks.
The wheels are turning. The Beacon Hill Dems made him an offer he couldn't refuse - with someone else's money. Nice trick. Usually they become Clerk of Court or Sergeant of Arms. Or a judge.
Speaking of Massachusetts politicians, whatever happened to Cheryl Jacques' ethics case? last March, there was supposed to be a hearing in three months. Inquiring minds want to know what ever happened to Judge Cheryl. And when she gets her TV show.

was in case the gov or lt gov goes mid-term due to death or serious illness. Not because they decided they want a better job.
If a person is elected to office, they should be required to serve out their full term. No ifs, ands, or buts (excepting death or serious ilness).
