Zakim gets ready to run for Ross's seat

David Bernstein reports that with Councilor Mike Ross (Mission Hill, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Fenway) running for mayor, Joshua Zakim, now running Joshua Dawson's campaign to replace Marty Walz in the House of Representatives, will be running to replace Ross. Phew. And yes, Zakim is the son of the late Leonard Zakim, as in the bridge.

He'll be running in District 8 against Greg Timilty, whose own father is also well known in these parts: Former City Councilor, State Senator and mayoral candidate Joseph Timilty.

On Saturday, I was on Brimmer Street in Ward 5, Precinct 11 and I ran into both Dawson, Zakim, and a 3rd person doorknocking identifying votes for Dawson.

This race could a classic contest between two families of Old Boston Dynastic Politics with Greg Timilty who is 38 and Josh Zakim who is 29. Additionally, I expect both Candidates to campaign hard. Timilty, is an experienced political operative who in 1999 finished 6th in a race for At-Large City Council. If Dawson,who is the former aide to Steve Grossman, wins his seat to replace Marty Walz in the State House, then he will add considerable leverage in helping Zakim in his run for City Council

I have know doubt this competitive race, along with Michael Ross running for Mayor could cause a high chunk of vote to come out of Beacon Hill and Back Bay. Two areas where voter participation has been declining over the past few decades.

What qualifies this kid to be a city councillor? All I know of him is he shows up at those nouveau riche social events with all those other d bags. And as far as I'm concerned, that's the Bunker Hill Bridge.
