Minister charged with shooting teen kept firearms and drugs in his apartment, police say

Shaun Harrison, already in trouble for allegedly shooting a high-school student he felt done him wrong could face new gun and drug charges based on what detectives found inside his apartment.

Police say detectives with a search warrant entered Harrison's home at 18 Pompeii Street and recovered two handguns, a shotgun, all sorts of ammunition, "trafficking weight of cocaine" and a large amount of marijuana. They also took note of "a large gang mural" on the wall.

Harrison, who worked at several Boston public schools - and who led anger-management classes at at least two of them - was arrested Thursday after he allegedly shot a 17-year-old from behind on Magazine Street. Police and prosecutors allege the teen had worked for Harrison selling marijuana but that the two had had a falling out.

Three other men spotted coming out of Harrison's apartment after the shooting were also arrested.

How many other phony ministers has the city been giving money to all these years? Is there anyone auditing these people?

When I first started to get involved in urban non-profit work, my church supported an organization that appeared to be a promising new grassroots organization. Lots of us volunteered to help out .... but over a period of about a year we realized that the organization was dishonest, taking money, and not doing what they were supposed to be doing.

Some of us spoke up -- a long, painful and complicated story -- and eventually the organization was shut down.

Lesson learned? Don't give up on connecting with good work in the community, but be smart. You can have a "trusting heart" but still be smart and exercise good judgment. And it's okay to speak up when something doesn't seem right.

I learned that back in the 70's when I was a good leftist working for good causes. Nothing has changed since then. There are always con and scam artists in the non profit world who've made their money on using this or that cause as way to raise money to put in their own pockets. Nationally, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be good examples. I won't name the names of our Boston Jackson's and Sharpton's.

We have state officials from Speakers of the House to city councilors lying about redistricting, padding their behinds and bras, now we have "ministers" (white and black) padding their wallets and threatening or trying to murder. Dante would be impressed with the quantity of secular and clerical fraud.

There seems to be a bonanza in NY and RI as well. House Speakers are toppling right and left.

It's all due to Twinkies.
