Apparently their rent was almost tripled.

I just read in the Globe the 'Landlord' stated rent was increased by less than double and they had a 5yr lease and was 'allegedly' told by the 'landlord' that rent would increase after that time. I agree it was overrated, overpriced and pretty empty during the day. This was the last business to reopen after 'extensive' renovations....

Landlord got a lot of flack online, probably trying to save face. My buddy is a commercial real estate broker, says Forum is paying in the mid-$50s and landlord asked for $175. He can ask whatever he wants, it's business. But it's a dick move. I also heard from multiple sources that the landlord charged them for the time they were closed after the marathon. Same landlord that squeezed Nebo out of the North End.

Let's have a poll on what bank will replace it.

They have little/no retail presence in Boston and they just announced they are closing 5% of their retail locations.

Late to the party, was a full day at work, but my moles tell me they snagged a catch with a large BB presence and are looking for a branch opportunity.

Who knows?

Come on, let's not be artificially-nostalgic for the past that never was. Did Vox really live up to your ideal idea of a night out, or was it honestly just another ridiculous Boylston Street, "wait on line," shithole, skunk dive of a bar masquerading as a club?

Ditto (times ten) after the Forum rebrand?

Whatever the cachet of exclusivity Forum attempted to exude, the place had terrible service, inconsistent hours, cuntish staff, and gruesome food.

I am honestly surprised they lasted this long.

I didn't hate Vox, only because there was usually a decent crowd and most people were at least 25+, rare for Boylston St. Forum wasn't good right from the start. They took a reasonably successful bar that served food and tried to make it a restaurant. It was empty pre-bombing, and empty post-bombing. I was also surprised it lasted this long, and highly doubt the rent was raised 3x current rate. I have a feeling that's Boston Nightlife Ventures trying to save face. It's a lot easier to blame the landlord, the insurance company, etc than it is to admit your concept didn't work.

This is America, sorry. If he can triple his profit there he should. He isn't a charity.

I wonder if the parent post guy would offer to take a 2/3 pay cut from his employer. Just to be ...classy, you know?

I'd wager not.

Yeah, because I'm sure if you owned a property you could make, say, $9,000/mo off of, you'd just give it away to someone for $3,000/mo. To be "classy", right?

Can't wait for there to be another Gucci store there.

I'd rather a Gucci store than an empty restaurant.

Mind you, this is the same company that completely remodeled the old Icarus in the South End, turning it into Noche for about a year. They let their staff run wild, giving away countless free drinks and food to patrons. Then, one day, closed Noche and turned it into Wink and Nod, again completely redoing the entire space.

I think that this closing has more to do with the fact that management at Boston Nightlife Ventures planned to use proceeds of Forum to fund the overage in costs at Wink and Nod. It's clear to anyone paying attention that they have no idea how to manage money correctly.

But at the end of the day, when in doubt, blame the landlord!

Friend of mine says rent was in the $50psf and landlord wanted $170psf, so yeah, 3x. Also heard the landlord made them pay for the time they were closed during marathon. RIP Forum

I hope this landlord has another tenant lined up right away. It seems Boylston Street is turning into DTX, what with all the empty storefronts.
