Guys, guys, there's a Dunk's right behind you

Line for Ogawa coffee in Downtown Crossing

AlistonTBoston shows us the line this morning outside the newly open Ogawa Coffee on Milk Street, which features the Japanese take on coffee, which includes extra fancy foam designs and stadium seating so you can watch the baristas - and this morning, free four-ounce bags of beans for the first 100 people.

I was thinking about one of the ones back on Washington Street.

"Guys, guys, there's a Dunk's everywhere around you!"

There is no other Dunkins between the Washington location next to One Boston Place and the other at the Corner Mall.

Did you notice I wasn't there?

You can get much the same taste by asking for a mug of hot water from a hot-dog cart.

...who wait for an hour or more to get one free scoop of ice cream at Ben and Jerry's. Seriously, have you nothing better to do? Are you employed? You'd rather waste your time to get something for free, when for a few dollars, you can get the same thing much faster and move on with your lives? I will never understand this behavior.

Unlike a free Slurpee, this is something new. If somebody's that curious, more power to them.

There are a lot of things I don't understand. :)

I have had an iphone since they were first released. I remember the lines down the block with people trying to get their hands on them. People camped out for days.
The very next day, I walked into my local Apple Store and within 10 mins walked out with a new iphone. Ive done the same thing every 2 years since.

I used to be puzzled about this also. But I have figured out that there is a just a breed of people that like to wait in line for things, especially if it is perceived as "new" or "a bargain". Hence the lines on so-called Black Friday, and also the lines at Apple stores every time they release something new (which is seemingly every other day or so). The line is part of the adventure and makes them feel like they are on the cutting edge and part of something.

Changing the name of Scollay Square to Government Center just turned a birthmark into a tattoo. Turning Winter|Summer, Washington Over into DTX just turned Bostonians into bureaucrats who eat NY-style chowder. Closing Loch-Ober, Where-U-Bot-the-Hat, Bailey's, etc., just eradicated this area from my travels. I have no use for it anymore. My grandmother said that when they closed Hovey's and RH Sterns! History marches on to its own graves.

...and this is related to the subject under discussion how? Except as a generalized old cranky fart rant about those uppity Asian people selling froufrou coffee in your dumpy old city?

Am I missing something? Aside from you, who mentioned 'uppity Asians'? Why in the world would you say something like that unless that's what you think?

And yeah, the city is old....so what? Moscow, Paris, London, etc., are all 'old' cities...NYC is as old as Boston...your point?

Chip on your shoulder and / or trolling?

I work two blocks away. I got in line at 9:45 am and was about 20th from the front of the line. It opened at 10 am. I got my free coffee beans and had a hot coffee in my hands by 10:30. Not too shabby for opening day!

On my recent trip to Japan, the "Japanese take on coffee" was cans of black Boss Coffee, sold in machines on every street corner. There were a lot of Starbucks too. Didn't see any stadium seating.
