it clearly was reprinted to include Walsh's name, that's not a cover-sticker.
They should probably just stop putting the names of elected officials on these signs. I know Massachusetts is the Land of Uncontested Incumbent Elections, but elections come every four years, and buying new signs potentially every four years is not a good way to allocate taxpayer funds.

Come on, Walsh! There are things Menino did that are worth continuing. Putting your name one every little sign in the city is not one of them. Maybe the billboard at Logan, but the name everywhere thing is too much.

Appreciate the tribute, but have to say that the city shouldn't use that sign. The West End was destroyed. If you want to put up a memorial sign stating that this used to be where the West End was, fine, but you don't get to call that area the West End if you destroyed it and christened it "Charles River Park." You don't get to cash in on the hipster-retro fad of being "into" urban spaces again and resurrecting the name. You didn't want the West End or its residents. You threw them out and tore down their homes, lying to them that they would be able to get back in after it was rebuilt. The West End lives with the people you scattered around the region not with the god-awful shitscape you assholes left behind.
Think up a new name.
(stated with the full understanding that Marty Walsh wasn't even born when this went down - but urban planners as a species can suck it, all realtors should be shot on sight and the marketing fuckwits that write their copy and make the architectural renderings have a special hole in hell waiting for them. harumph.)
West End Sign

I agree. Instead of a "welcome to the West End" sign, there should be a plaque along the lines of "on this spot was once a neighborhood called the West End". I work in the area and I was surprised when that "welcome to the West End" sign suddenly appeared recently.
The hipster realtor trend of bringing back names of defunct places, especially those destroyed in ignominious way, doesn't cut it. Like the signs they put up in Government Center saying "Scollay Square".
The West End should remain
