Tree asks people to stop putting trash around it at the base of Mission Hill

Chris in Boston noticed a tree at Huntington and South Huntington avenues had a request for passersby this morning: Stop leaving trash around it.

Ed. note: Given its location, the tree should probably also be asking people to drive more carefully in the rain and not crash into it.

I'm not usually a fan of these (sometimes snarky) handwritten signs left around, but this one is either so over the top or so sincere that I like it. It's fun.

"Looks like" based on a photograph of a small section of the trunk? Well, whatever -- perhaps you're much better at tree identification than I am. The thing is, though, Norway maples are considered invasive because they proliferate so readily, which they can only do if there's dirt around them. If they're surrounded almost entirely by pavement, it's not so much a problem...and even if it were, if you want to get rid of an invasive, cut it down. What good does heaping trash on it do? Sure doesn't stop it from being "invasive".

The sign itself...pretty trashy. I mean if visual blight Is the issue...
