Chelsea party ends with seven shot, one fatally

A party at 120 Washington Ave. ended around 2:40 a.m. with a mass shooting that left a 19-year-old Chelsea man dead, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The DA's office says that Chelsea Police responded to calls about a disturbance to find "multiple parties suffering apparent gunshot wounds," including one man who died after being transported to Whidden Memorial Hospital.

Six other people were shot; one man also suffered non-gunshot injuries. All are expected to survive, the DA's office says. The victims are between 15 and 22.

State Police homicide detectives are investigating.

These so-called parties always end up in disaster.

What do you even mean? What "so-called parties?" What disaster do they "always" end in? When else has this happened and where?

If you're going to make some vague claim that this is a trend or a frequent event, at least give a few other examples.

I'm not sure what the original comment meant with these "so-called parties", but I would say that the gun violence reported on this blog and in the nightly news represent an unfortunate trend. Wouldn't you agree?

The trend is in the reporting. the violence itself has been going on for thousands of years.

State Police have jurisdiction over Homicide investigations state wide. Only Boston retains its own Jurisdiction over homicide cases.

The Massachusetts the State Police are the agency that responds and starts the investigation on cases that result in death. It is relatively common in many smaller communities across the state (and I suspect the country) as the skill set needed in these types of cases is very advanced and requires training and resources.

Just looked a little deeper into it. Only Boston, Worcester, Springfield and Pittsfield handle their own cases of this nature. The rest are the jurisdiction of the State Police.

In the case of smaller jurisdictions, the State Police handles the homicide investigation. The District Attorney has the authority to declare which agency will investigate a homicide. The State Police handles cases in the smaller jurisdictions because there are so few homicides in those jurisdictions that it would be impractical for a small police department to have a homicide unit, a lab and all the other needed components. Usually when the State comes in they have a detective from the local jurisdiction brought into their team, since that detective will be more familiar with the people, gangs and neighborhood.
