Fenway bar gets license suspended for letting minors buy beer, but not for incident that forced a man into a coma
The Boston Licensing Board today ordered a two-day suspension for the Baseball Tavern, 1270 Boylston St., for an incident on April 2 in which police detectives found three underage men - one just 18 - kicking back with Bud Lights, after a doorman agreed to let at least two of them in for a suitable fee.
However, the board said the bar was not to blame for a May 1 incident in which police found a customer right outside its doors, unconscious and covered in blood, with brain injuries so bad doctors still have him in a medically induced coma.
At a hearing on Tuesday, a bar manager said the man was still waking, conscious and blood-free when bouncers separated him from a pack of men punching him and got him outside. The manager said he had no clue how the man then preceded to suffer a traumatic brain injury and get covered in his own blood moments later.
At the hearing, a Boston Police detective said the incident remains the subject of an active investigation, but did not shed any light on what specifically might have happened to the main inside or outside the bar.

Not the first
Lord, the number of fights I saw at the 1270 back in the day.
Maybe it was better when it was Quest.
The worst thing I ever saw at Quest was when a friend of mine yanked on the long bow-laden tail on the back of a drag queen's tall Marie Antoinette bouffant, causing it to topple to the ground. It was five minutes before closing one Pride and my friend overheard the drag queen saying "c*nt [this] and c*nt [that]", and she didn't like it, so she gave the wig a tug...
Ugh. I pine for the old 1270
Ugh. I pine for the old 1270 nightclub of the 80s. And I forget the name after that. But it was fun. When did it become the baseball cavern I mean tavern?
Just curious
Does the Licensing Board still have the policy of allowing the establishment to decide which days they will be shut down?
This sort of smacks of hypocrisy.
The fact that the proprietor(s) of the tavern even allowed something like this:
toi occur, and not suspend the license for it really does smack of hypocrisy. Let's hope there's a thorough and credible investigation of this horrific incident, and that the young man who was badly beaten to the point where he sustained such horrific brain injuries that he had to be put into a medically-induced coma ultimately recovers from his injuries and resumes leading a normal life.
Bar broke up the fight, sent the guy on his way,
and apparently prevented the other guys from immediately following him outside. You tell me what more could they have reasonably done in this situation.
Immediately and reasonably
Immediately and reasonably being the operational words?
