Fenway bar gets license suspended for letting minors buy beer, but not for incident that forced a man into a coma

The Boston Licensing Board today ordered a two-day suspension for the Baseball Tavern, 1270 Boylston St., for an incident on April 2 in which police detectives found three underage men - one just 18 - kicking back with Bud Lights, after a doorman agreed to let at least two of them in for a suitable fee.

However, the board said the bar was not to blame for a May 1 incident in which police found a customer right outside its doors, unconscious and covered in blood, with brain injuries so bad doctors still have him in a medically induced coma.

At a hearing on Tuesday, a bar manager said the man was still waking, conscious and blood-free when bouncers separated him from a pack of men punching him and got him outside. The manager said he had no clue how the man then preceded to suffer a traumatic brain injury and get covered in his own blood moments later.

At the hearing, a Boston Police detective said the incident remains the subject of an active investigation, but did not shed any light on what specifically might have happened to the main inside or outside the bar.
