Shortly after 10 a.m., State Police reported a truck driver heading out of town on Storrow Drive managed to smash his truck into the Bowker overpass, and now his truck is stuck there.
Cruisers enroute. Expect delays.
Photos of poor truck lying in fetal position.

Just biked by on Mass Ave and the outbound backup on Storrow looks pretty bad. It looks like there is one lane of traffic moving on the overpass, and one moving on Storrow.

I'm sure the truck driver's GPS told him/her to go that way...

Cue roadman ranting about non-standard signage when that clearance height signage looks pretty damn standard to me.
Yep, that clearance sign
on that overpass is pretty standard. But I'm willing to bet the clearance signs (if any) at the ramp where the truck entered the highway are not standard. And that's the whole problem here - preventing overheight vehicles from getting onto Storrow in the first place.

Mr. Baker, tear down this
Mr. Baker, tear down this wall. The Bowker Overpass is a terrible wall that cuts off residents and visitors alike from enjoying part of Olmstead's park and the Charles River. Its time to tear it down.
I agree, but ...
This overpass ramp would still exist even if Bowker went away, as it also carries the westbound ramp to Storrow from Beacon Street and Charlesgate East. Changing that would require a lot of reconstruction, not just the removal of Bowker.
Pulitzer-level headline there
I mean, really. Possibly your finest work yet.
