Police say Chelsea woman made up story about being stomped and slashed by three men

Chelsea Police report a woman who claimed she was beaten, kicked and slashed by three men as she walked home wasn't.

Although the woman did, in fact, show up at a local hospital with a slashed hand, that came from her jumping in the middle of a fight between some male pals and getting cut with a broken bottle.

As a result of providing the police with this fabricated report of a crime mentioned above, misleading the police throughout the entire investigation, spreading significant fear throughout the city as well as expending considerable resources by the police in an attempt to find those responsible for what was believed to be a serious act of violence, Denissa Perez (25) of Chelsea, shall be charged with Misleading a Police Officer in a Criminal Investigation under M.G.L. Chapter 268 §13B.

Innocent, etc.

I live about a block from where this allegedly happened. It's a little un-nerving to hear that it allegedly happened. Only because it was on street, and and seemed pretty random. Random violent crime (non-gang, non drug, non-domestic) is actually on the low side in Chelsea.. so to hear about this was a bit un-nerving.

I just want to know why she did it? What did she expect to gain from this?

Insurance scam? Maybe she thought she'd sue someone? Maybe she wanted to punish the men who injured her when she broke up the fight--I wonder if her description matched that of the men--maybe she was going to find a way to finger them? I want to know too!

I would think maybe more to protect her 'friends' that did it? Instead of the police looking for them, they are just looking for some random other fictional people.

She shows up at the ER with all sorts of cuts, they call the police, and since either she doesn't want the real guy to get trouble or she doesn't want to cross them, she panics and makes up the "attacked on the street" story.

Most likely domestic violence, she needed medical attention, she didn't feel safe naming the actual perp. One hopes someone, rather than blather it all over the internet, is actually helping her.

"Blather it all over the internet"? Like the police did? The monsters. Why would they do such a thing? I can't think of a single good reason.

Oh, except for, I guess, to let the public know that random dudes aren't attacking and stabbing women in Chelsea. Oh, also to remind me people that it is a serious crime to mislead police intentionally. Oh, also, to remind people that surprisingly, on occasion, people lie to the police and they really shouldn't because it makes their difficult job even all that much harder.

Yeah but other than that, what a bunch of dicks.

- She wasn't supposed to be with those guys and had to explain what happened to her partner.

- She was scared of what her partner would do to her if she was with those guys.

- She wanted to get back at one of those guys for not taking her home (I've actually seen this one where a woman accused a man of raping her and then recanted because he wouldn't give her a ride home and was rude)

-She wanted to get back at those guys for some other reason

-She panicked and just made up a story.

-She has mental health issues and drugs/alcohol clogged her thinking.

-She lost some property and now needed a story to cover for losing the property (Another case I had were a drug running female was sexually assaulted by a drug buyer and she had to make up a story as to what happened to the money/drugs to her drug dealer).

-Same story as above except substitute prostitution with drug dealing (she may have been robbed/raped by the John).

My money is on:
-She panicked and just made up a story

She's in the hospital
They start asking questions
She makes up something
They start asking more questions, involve the police - she just wants to get her hand fixed up
And it snowballs way beyond what she had imagined

"As a result police were able to learn a short time ago that in fact no attack took place involving this victim at the aforementioned location. Rather Detectives have since learned and confirmed that a fight occurred inside of an undisclosed address between several male parties. The alleged victim was present with this group and had intervened in an attempt to break up the fight and in doing so received a laceration to her hand from a broken bottle requiring several stitches and some additional bruises and scrapes about her person."

From the police press release that was sent out. It looks like possibly she did not want to say it was her friends/others who were fighting and figured she would just lie and say it was someone out on the street.
