NECN reports. At 3:11 a.m., Patrick tweeted from the Back Bay:

Wow! I thought a plane crashed just now. Just thunder.

Was woken up several times last night. One cell had to have been a local strike - lighting and thunder almost simultaneous.

Ended up with a tree down on our street...

Because our RCN service is out. Now to go home and see if it's back or our cable box/modem is fried (which happened once before).

Sounded like we got two storm cells - one a bit after 3 and another about an hour later. The first one was short but impressive - two really loud booms.

Several loud cracks of thunder set off two car alarms on my street. Thunder in February, who woulda thought...

In Wakefield. The most annoying part was when the alert tone on my weather radio kept going off - just fall asleep again, then another alert.

Around 3:30am, a particularly loud and long thunderclap woke me and set off car alarms throughout the neighborhood, and that continued for another 30-45 minutes.

Oddly, at least in Somerville, there was no real wind or rain to accompany the storm, so we must have just been outside the cell. Really weird to have complete silence and then flash and boom!

I've been woken by thunder. Loud and bright in Brookline.
