So parts of Denzel Washington's Equalizer sequel are being filmed in East Boston this weekend. It did not get off to a good start, at least not for residents, as seen in this report in the East Boston Open Discussion forum:
I was trying to take a left off of Bremen onto porter street to take my Kids to school here was one car in front of me and a movie crew truck was going to take a right into Bremen from beside Santarpios. There was a worker telling us that it will be awhile before we can move. I said we need to get kids to school and he told me “to shut the fuck up lady” so my husband starting yelling at him and he continued to swear at my husband and call him a fat fuck. And he pulled out a wad of money was that supposed to make it better that they talked to me like I was street trash.
Like the job UHub is doing? Consider a contribution. Thanks!

I've seen movie crews block off entire streets. In my experience , the film crew only notifies a small number of connected people prior to shooting.
Organize your neighbors and call the mayor's office throughout the day.

Can the crew act like cops and prevent residents from accessing the streets? Or can the residents tell them to kindly eff off?

Legally no, but the crews are union and good luck having the authorities or the court system protect you if the crew decides to go vigilante on you. =(

Several years ago a movie was filming in my residential neighborhood. One morning a crew member tried to tell me I had to walk down a different street to get to my bus stop. I gave him my patented death stare and kept going. They don't call me Cranky for nothin'.

The film pays Boston big sums for permits, details, etc. In return, the city allows them to do what they want.
The permits are cheap.

Like you said though,
It's the details (no pun intended)
And the donations to various local "benevolent societies"
that grease the production wheels here.

Where should I go to swear at people and have them try to buy me off. Because I'll take their money.
(Seriously, if someone is blocking a roadway, call BPD. They'll probably hang up on you, but it's worth a try.)

PA's are just below people who kick kittens and Cossacks in search of trouble in the International Humanity Scale. Their job is to intimidate anyone who might mess up their ass kissing to their producers and the talent.
In ye olden days while working on the Swan Boats I was yelled at from the Public Garden Bridge to stop talking to the passengers on the boat by some LA based dweeb because they were shooting a very important scene for Spenser For Hire. They weren't shooting, they were just teching the shot. They did the actual filming an hour later. As soon as they yelled action my buddy rolled a bicycle tire through the shot. We did it again until a cop told us enough, but he was slightly giggling at what we did.
Remind them that they are guests here and be firm with them. A few F Off's should help. Then again with the certain film assistance union emboldened with their recent Top Chef or whatever it was victory you might get your tires slashed. Be careful.
She should've taken the money

There's 1, MAYBE 2 guys who handle film locations in this town.

Not to mention anything & everything film related goes through Patty at the Boston Film Office.
Find her and raise hell.
(She has a weekly film meeting but the offices are always open at City Hall.)
If this was someone on the Grip, Electric, or Art Dept crew they'll get tossed on their asses.
If they were Teamsters you're probably SOL because they're a protected class in this town.
Good luck!

Last one made nearly $200MM, so I suppose you can call it that.
200MM

That was the width of the film it was shot on, not the amount of money the studio claims they grossed before expenses.

MM is short for million, not millimeter. If you want to get technical, it only made $192,330,738.

I've had mixed experiences

with filming in the city.
The house behind my old apartment in Putnam Sq. on Eagle Hill was John Connolly's house in Black Mass (the scene where he pulls up and yells to his wife in the rain). He "parked" on the corner, so my place actually made it into the film! They made it as if it were pouring rain on a beautiful summer night, so you can imagine the amount of equipment and staging involved here, and I lived right on the corner so was essentially at the epicenter of the production. The crew was really nice and as accommodating as they could be to residents, to the point of making sure we had parking and getting us in and out during shooting and whatnot. We sat in the window watching them film, Joel Edgerton was super nice and was talking to us between takes.
Then I went down to check out Ghostbusters a few years back, when they were filming at the old Verizon building in Chinatown. The PA's there were definitely overreaching, trying to tell people they couldn't stand on the sidewalk and watch, well outside of the area that was blocked off/permitted. I overheard someone ask a BPD officer on site about it, and he basically said the PA's can't actually make you move outside of what they're permitted for.
It sounds like this guy was being a total dick, and Eastie is already getting very contentious with all of the development happing and related parking and traffic headaches it's causing, so it should be an interesting weekend.
So what it sounds like

Is that someone needs to make themselves a neighborhood Point Person on this, talk to BPD and the various legal people as to what the PAs can and cannot do, and figure out what their permits do and do not cover, and post it publicly on a community website or social media page. Ex: Alert: Filming on XYZ Street, permit covers (abc) and only (abc).
Maybe Adam should start hiring interns again and assign them to this beat.

HEY, DENZEL! IM TRYING TO GET MY KIDS TO SCHOOL! DENZEL! HEY DENZEL! WE LIVE HERE, DENZEL! LOVE YOUR WORK, DENZEL! (It's OK to lie.) ETC.!
At the very least, you'll make them have to dub that scene. Who knows, maybe Denzel will be shamed into letting the little people have their space back. Although from what I've heard about the guy, it's not likely.

Get a life, it's not Denzel's fault. They're spending money in our city while creating decent paying jobs. That means no one employment no welfare. Try being patient..

I was there when the traffic jam occurred, first off there should've been more Boston police there to assist with the traffic instead of the workers trying to do it. It appeared to me that The workers were trying to do the right thing and keep traffic moving well parking trucks. I have lived in East Boston for most of my life, movies being filmed in our city is good thing unfortunately it might create traffic from time to time.

...are down in Brant Rock sprucing up a couple of buildings inside & out in preparation for a shoot later this month. Seems they will be there for awhile since rumor hath it they have rented a house for Denzel. The gang here now are very friendly. I doubt there would be similar problems to those described above since the off-season doldrums will be in full swing.
