Lynch to hold forum on how to preserve our constitutional rights

US Rep. Stephen Lynch is hosting a forum Friday night on "Keeping America Safe While Preserving Our Constitutional Rights."

The session, which begins at 7 p.m. at Milton High School, 25 Gile Rd., will be:

An opportunity for constituents to come together to discuss the legal implications of President Trump’s executive actions, to discuss what can be done to resist any infringements of Constitutional rights and discuss existing and ongoing efforts to ensure safety in our homeland, and to provide resources for those who may need assistance.

I like U.S. Rep. Lynch, especially for having the foresight and courage as one of the few Democrats to vote against devastating Obamacare. Although violence is never a solution, given the hostage crisis and "death to America" chants that continue today, it's no surprise that his 1979 arrest for assault and battery on Iranians was dropped.

Here's hoping Lynch also entertains questions on Obama's six month ban on immigrants from Iraq in 2011 and his ban last month on Cubans fleeing Communism, an apparent punishment to the many Cubans who put President Trump over the top in Florida.

I feel bad for you.

I appreciate your feeling bad but life is very good, especially these days. Please redirect your sympathy to all victims of Islamic Jihad and other violence.

If you are saying that your life is good, and you lie all the time ...

I hope things in reality life improve.

Nice and dismissive. No need for substance in your comment, of course; all the UH loyalists nod in unison when any commenter takes on O-FISH-L.

I was thinking of responding to FISH's points but he's a troll so what's the point.

There are a lot of valid arguments on a range of issues discussed daily on UHub. Even the anti-gun control people (not my politics) have brought up some valid points. But FISH just keeps shouting racist non sequiturs.

on the subway platform telling me I need to repent and condemn the gays. My arguments would fall on deaf ears, because he's not interested in hearing anything other than the voices in his head. FISH can apparently post all the racist/sexist/fascist drivel he wants without the banhammer falling on him, so I'll just be pointing and laughing like everyone else.

I want to know when Lynch will debate Brianna Wu.

Nice try, Brianna Wu.

Brianna Wu is the first politician who I'm excited about seeing run. This country needs more women like her.

...she is terrible. Do we really need more unqualified people running for government? I don't think being victimized by Gamergate and producing mediocre video games qualifies one to run for office. Should she be an advocate for femminiism and cracking down on online harassment? Sure. Do I want someone in government worrying about these as pet projects? Not really. Lets worry about crime and homelessness, and I am pretty sure iPhone app development and spending hours on twitter isn't going to do much for that.

Do I thin it was wrong she was harassed and tormented? Yes, but her claiming she fought the at right and won is the same as Trump claiming her won the popular vote. One of her feuds was with Milo from Breitbart, and this guy has a book deal, and is touring college campuses causing kids to riot, then getting interviewed on CNN trying to make hate speech normalized, you think that is winning?

If you want a tech person, how about someone from the real tech businesses here, like former Lotus people, Dot Com founders, etc. The whole 'hey a cool tech chick would be awesome...' - is sort off a sketchy image to project. If you read about her background, not really that impressive either. Let us go for someone who is super smart, qualified, and actually understands how government works (filing complaints with the government isn't the same as understanding how it works)

I don't think Lynch is some great catch either, but he seems to have more experience, but lets not go down the path of 'hey good enough because they are different' route, because that got you Trump.

Best of luck

Let's see the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th..... etc have all been whittled away in this state and all of a sudden Lynch notices because a New Yorker with a perm and spray tan is sitting in the White House? Where has Lynch been since 1968?

Which versions? Massachusetts has a militia and the right bear arms in that militia are secure. As for the near free for all version advocated by Scalia he would agree that his version of the 2nd Amendment is followed here. He said that the states have the right to regulate gun ownership after all. If the 2nd Amendment version of anyone owning guns without licensing or any kind of safety consideration is meant then yes, that idea of zero concern for safety is not doing well here.

If the 4th and 5th are whittled away then that is a problem. From what I've read of SJC decisions my guess is that they err on the side of maintained the 4th. For the 5th which part was whittled away?

I agree that the 6th has been whittled away but that is because neither state nor the federal government funds the judiciary as needed. Where funding is concerned state and federal governments seem intent on keeping the judiciary weak and assuring that justice is something that is provided only to the wealthiest who can withstand the delays that rise up in a court case the way weeds rise up in a field.

What other Amendents have been whittled away?

I don't ask to provoke but to ask for precision and clarity. To cry the world is falling apart when there in fact are problems that can be solved is an argument for apathy.

"If the fundamental right of self-defense does not protect Caetano, then the safety of all Americans is left to the mercy of state authorities who may be more concerned about disarming the people than about keeping them safe." ― CAETANO v. MA

"Although the Supreme Judicial Court professed to apply Heller, each step of its analysis defied Heller’s reasoning."

The MA SJC was unanimously bench slapped for violating the 2A. But keep telling yourself the SJC respects civil rights when the ENTIRE USSC noted the SJC takes pains not to.

...to discuss what can be done to resist any infringements of Constitutional rights...

Discussion of the Second Amendment (2A) will require a forum of its own (surprised?), and therefore will not be part of Friday's forum.

Instead, the 2A forum will be held on Friturday, February 30 at Cambridge City Hall from 6 midnight to 12. The forum will feature out-of-state speakers who are nationally known legal experts on 2A. The speakers are scheduled to arrive at South Station by train from Washington, D. C. shortly before the forum. At South Station they will head for the Red Line after detraining [sick] at Platform 9 3/4.

Per Wikipedia:

The Latin adverb sic ("thus"; "just as"; in full: sic erat scriptum, "thus was it written")[1] inserted after a quoted word or passage, indicates that the quoted matter has been transcribed exactly as found in the source text, complete with any erroneous or archaic spelling, surprising assertion, faulty reasoning, or other matter that might otherwise be taken as an error of transcription.

unless of course you mean the actual train is "sick" (understandable) OR "sick" being used in the cultural sense of : "rad", "neat", "cool", etc.

I know you are kidding but Cambridge and Cambridge City hall itself is much more respectful and tolerant of the 2A than Boston. The difference being Cambridge on almost every subject trusts and respects its citizens to a much greater degree than Boston.

Don't know about Cambridge and 2A, but your second sentence nailed it. Boston "protects" its residents from themselves.

I hope plenty of time will be reserved for discussion of why Lynch welched on his student loans until he decided to run for office.

"Welching on a bet" is a slur - similar to "Paddy wagon," (drunks and ne'er do wells) "Indian giver," (not trust worthy) "Dutch treat,"( cheap) and "Jewish lightening" (insurance fraud).
all flavorful language that began as insults to the peoples of each nation.

I hope plenty of time will be reserved for discussion of why Lynch purposely screwed the government by not paying his student loans until he decided to run for office.
