The CBC reports the Supreme Court's April hearing on the constitutionality of President Trump's Muslim ban will come too late for a Canadian permanent resident who qualified for the Marathon this year but who was born in Iran.
Let's secede then. I'm all set with some guy in Washington deciding who does and does not run in our marathon. What has America done for Boston lately?
i'm in. as soon as we leave with our booming economy, we'll still have friends in the other democracies and the "united" states will be begging for us to come back.
That, let's take highways and transit as one example that I can speak to, we secure a lot of money from the Feds to fund our capital plans, which address crumbling infrastructure, I'd say that the Federal level does quite a bit for allowing us to function, as well as alleviate and fix our transportation ills. But that's just one example of how the Feds enable us to do what we do here.
If you use your imagination and extrapolate, secession is about as dumb of an idea that I can think of financially and operationally speaking.
More to the point of the article at hand is that this speaks to a garbage immigration policy by the work of a completely trash presidential administration, much to the pleasure of the "Freedom" Caucus in Congress, as well.
80 cents from the feds for every dollar we send them. The rest goes to prop up failing red states and THEIR infrastructure. We really would be better off to stop sending DC our money and keep it for our own projects. Plus if we were no longer part of 'Murica we probably wouldn't have to spend much on defense as we would no longer be fighting the entire planet. Qubec should come too....

When you look at our return on the federal taxes we pay, MA gets a lot less than most states . Who gets back the most for what they pay? Mostly Red states.
But that we do secure money for programs, and I was speaking to transportation, so, through the FHWA, US DOT, FTA, FRA, etc. Yeah, a lot of our money ends up funding other states, and if I can walk back what I said only a bit, I still think it'd be stupid to give up that funding, unless I can read a source saying that we could produce all of those funds locally.
From the CBC article to which Adam linked in the original post:
He has lived in Toronto since 2013, is a permanent resident of Canada, and is in the process of applying for Canadian citizenship.
Presumably an application for Canadian citizenship, like one for US citizenship, is not instantaneous, and Mr. Hatami's application won't be complete before this year's marathon.
