Unbearable: Ursine makes self at home in Medford
By adamg on Fri, 12/14/2018 - 11:22am
Medford Police report a black bear has been visiting the Lincoln Street area for at least a month, but that nobody notified authorities until 2:45 a.m. today, when a resident at 114 Lincoln Rd. called 911 to report a "medium sized bear" making quite a commotion in the area where the resident keeps trash.
The officer deployed his flashlight and spotted said bear in a neighboring yard. The bear then ran off into nearby woods.
Officials urged residents to keep trash "properly secured" and to remove bird feeders and pet food (and, presumably, picnic baskets) from the area.
A bear has been ambling about Burlington as well.

medford bear
i think i saw him, hairy chest and a gold rope chain?
ahem
I was nowhere near Medford last night. And its a silver chain :-) (gold... eww..)
Perhaps you should wait
... before you come to dinner?
On the positive side, our new neighbors who live practically into the woods are THRILLED. Each new creature is a feature!
Time to organize the Bear Patrol?
We need swift and decisive action against these hibernating hucksters!
Absolutely!
It's become a freekin' bear jamborou out there. Plus, we need to think of the children - and our picnic baskets.
Bear Patrol?
That's funny
I was watching The Sopranos last night and the episode was based around an eastern black bear.
Of course Burlington's bear has a Twitter account
And has been using the handle @Burlington_Bear . "Where Technology Goes To Work" indeed!
He's also been using the hashtag #BurlyBear ("Burly" being the nickname that the kids have assigned the community in recent years), which I think might not mean what he thinks it means.
How about you
What do you think it means?
Massive group chat going on now
This bear has apparently been sighted numerous times in the last month, but the former city councilor "ratted him out" after the bear got more than a little too close to his house and caused a ruckus.
I had noted some strange goings on - motion lights triggering, thought the neighbor's kid was cutting through the yard very early in the morning, etc. Lots of dog freakouts, too. Now it all makes sense. The garbage can is now safely in the garage.
I predicted this would happen soon when Burlington got a bear ... on a map it is easy to see how many wildlands and woodlands connect us.
No, I'm not calling the cops as directed if I see this critter, not unless there is clear danger. We don't report coyotes in these parts, either.
Is there a new bear bar
in the Medford area?
Or Burlington?
Same old Buffet
New patrons. First it was raccoons, then coyotes, now bears enjoying the garbage smorgasbords.
There goes the neighborhood.
Trash bear!
Trash bear!
Get that robit from Bezos' warehouse deployed!
