Boston Police advise that around 1:30 p.m., Charles DiGiacomo will receive a 21-gun salute at the Ruggiero Funeral Home on Saratoga Street, to honor his service in the Army - he fought in both World War II and the Korean War and who was an Army reservist for 40 years.
DiGiacomo, 92, died on Oct. 29.
In addition to his military service, DiGiacomo was a machinist at MIT and Draper Labs and an aerospace specilist who worked on the Apollo and space-shuttle programs.

Honors at a funeral are called a "three-volley salute" and should not be confused with a 21-gun salute which is fired by a battery of artillery pieces to honor the President of the United States, former Presidents and Presidents-elect, Chiefs of state, heads of government and reigning monarchs.
