This weekend, I'll be tweaking Universal Hub's templates to keep ads off pages for monthly subscribers - not just the ads themselves, but the calls to the UHub ad servers that would otherwise put all sorts of hidden stuff on pages. I've been testing out the code to make this happen, and, so far, it actually works (yes, I'm always amazed when that happens).
The result should be that pages come up faster for you, at least if you're a subscriber and logged in.
This weekend, I'll try to match up the e-mails I have for subscribers and activate this for you, but if you do subscribe, and have a moment, I'd be grateful for an e-mail message with your account name (I've never actually paired subscriber e-mail addresses with UHub accounts). Because it relies on you being logged in, I'm also going to (finally!) see if I can lengthen the time in which the system recognizes logins, so you don't have to re-log in as often as at present.
If you're not currently a subscriber, you can become one (scroll down for the "Monthly subscription" option).
If you are a subscriber, thank you!
Like the job UHub is doing? Consider a contribution. Thanks!

This site is not biased, by definition. I would have been tossed long ago.
I ran a site like this for ten years with just about the same population inverted politically, but the main difference is that we would have bipartisan meetups often and my obvious passion was a Flash game arcade onsite. My predominantly right-wing members would beg me to ban the lefties but I very rarely did. Bias sucks.
Every single time Adam pokes his head out here as a poster, I am brought back to my days of creating, moderating, and expertly executing duties as the captain of my own ship. He does a fine job, in my opinion, in every aspect. Ego and pride aside, there is a serious amount of responsibility whenever the captain decides to open their mouth. Everything is recorded FOREVER. Trust me, I have tried to nail Adam on a multitude of topics and never got past the research phase. He has predilections and interests, as he appears to be human. He is absolutely clean of bias, though.

What's the reward for your current loyal monthly donators?
They get an ad-free site, too

I've already turned off the ads for the folks who've sent me e-mail telling me what their user names are; will try to pair up the rest this weekend.

I haven't paid my Uhub dues in a while, yet read the site every day.

Somehow I didn't realize that a monthly subscription was possible. I was thinking just the other day that it's been a while since I sent some money along, so now I'm glad I don't have to keep reminding myself until I actually do so. :)
Aw, thanks!

The ads don't bother me ( although I don't click through very iften either)
Of course!

I basically have to manually throw a switch to turn ads off for someone, so it's just as easy to not do that.
Adam should have a patreon account

But it seems like it's only for subscriptions, with no way for somebody to make a one-time contribution. Or am I missing something?
Technical solution

Patreon allows subscribers to come and go as they please.
Someone who wanted to do a one-time contribution could sign up for that sized subscription, then immediately cancel their subscription.
I and most freelancers I know

I and most freelancers I know have a patreon for regular support and a kofi for one-timers. the billing cycle / rewards access for patreon is kind of a hassle and can be very buggy and if it's a one time 5$ sometimes it's just not worth it, especially w the fees.

Is there any way that one can donate or subscribe to UHub without having to join Pay Pal? I am (somewhat of a) tech hating Luddite. I mean, I read this blog every almost every day and really enjoy it and I would like to kick you down some change, but I can't bring myself to sign up for Pay Pal. Maybe you can set up a P.O. Box for donations and I can send you a USPS money order?
Right on

And Adam can print out the site and send it to you via horse.
