One resident rescued from two-alarm fire on Homes Avenue in Dorchester

The Boston Fire Department reports a fire called in around 6:25 a.m. at 83 Homes Ave. apparently started on the third floor and spread to the roof.

One resident had to be rescued by firefighters, the department says, adding the person was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Firefighters knocked the bulk of the fire down by about 7:15 a.m.

The department estimates damage at $400,000 and says four people were displaced.

The cause is under investigation.
