Mark McDonald reports that an apparently lonely swan in Mill Pond - the part of the Mother Brook that River Street crosses in Hyde Park - seemed to be a bit happier today now that its partner has rejoined it after several weeks of absence.

Do swans mate for life? If so then this would have been reason for concern. Again, proof that nature is fine if left alone. Humans are uncivilized and stupid.

In both opposite and same sex pairings! There was a pair in the mill pond last spring too, but they weren't around come summer. I wonder if it's a stopover on the way to wherever they nest.
