The Boston Fire Department reports firefighters responded to 59 Wales St. around 1:15 pm. for what turned into a four-alarm fire that spread to a neighboring building.
The fire was declared knocked down shortly after 1:50 p.m., although firefighters remained on scene to make sure there were no hotspots that could flare up.
The department reports 16 people were displaced. A cat and a parakeet were saved.
