The Boston Licensing Board today approved a request by Black Seed to extend its closing time from 2:30 a.m. to 3 a.m. in its new location one door down from its old one on Tremont Street in Downtown Crossing.
"I actually have no issue with this," board Chairwoman Kathleen Joyce said. The board, which has show more of a willingness to consider later hours than officials in the past, then voted unanimously to approve the change in hours.
City Councilor Ed Flynn, who represents downtown, had opposed the half-hour increase in hours, saying 3 a.m. closing times are just too late for New England's largest city.
In addition to Black Seed, El Jefe at Tremont and Boylston streets is open until 2 a.m., while New York Pizza, further down Tremont, is open until 3 a.m. on weekends.

So...a few ways to take that. Either Ed thinks 3 AM closing times are fine...but only if
...you're New England's smallest city?
...you're the Pacific Northwest's largest city?
...you're New England's largest amusement park?
Also, here's the thing, Ed. Fuck your opinion on what's too late and for where. If you can't justify why someone else being up at 3 AM getting a kabob is an issue for anyone, then stay out of the way. And if that justification is something like the CHANCE that the same person might also disturb the peace...that's a criminal matter, call a cop.
Suddenly the Board was bored with boredom?

What changed that this Board is now willing to smile upon later hours for eateries?
