A guy on the edge of the Fells in Medford called in a bear sighting a few years back, but it was a beaver.
There was also a "cougar" report out west that turned out to be a large housecat,

I was waved at by a cop today at the Mystic Lakes so he could tell me to be careful as there was a bear report in the area.

There are occasionally bears in the area. There was one on the edge of the Fells who was under witness protection by the neighborhood. Then the bear broke into a garage looking for garbage, set off an alarm that called the police, and the cops got a picture as he ran off.
NextDoor blew up, but not in the way you'd expect. "I thought we all agreed not to report the bear!!!" and "Why did you have to dime the bear!". The poor homeowner got yelled at by the neighbors, but it wasn't his fault that the bear broke into his garage.
Thanks for letting me know about the most recent one!
