Boston Police report arresting Lakeida Burris, 36, yesterday on animal-cruelty charges for the way she allegedly starved one of her two pit-bull dogs and harmed the second.

Burris, arrested on Ernst Street had bail set at $1,500 at her arraignment yesterday in Roxbury Municipal Court, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

According to the DA's office:

On July 4, Boston police were called to Burris’s home on an unrelated matter and discovered two dogs, Jobee and Remy, in her home. Shortly after the officers responded to the home, Burris abandoned Jobee, the Pit Bull mix, alongside a dumpster near her home. Both Jobee and Remy were later recovered by the MSPCA.

The MSPCA adds:

Jobee, a remarkable 3 year old pittie, is lucky to be alive and has defied all odds on his journey to recovery. This is the most severe case of intentional starvation we have ever encountered.

Innocent, etc.

Comments

She should be forced to pay every penny for those pups recovery and hit with 2000 hours of community service picking up trash off the streets. She should recognize trash b/c she is trash as is any of her family or friends that knew this was going on and did nothing.

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Judging from comments I constantly see on UHUB our nation is not so moral or great.

omg that's awful. Those poor dogs. Why are people like this? Just surrender the dog to the MSPCA if you don't want it anymore. But to starve them like this.. this extreme. She is not a well person apparently.

Some days I wish the punishment for animal abuse was the abuse the animal endured. In this case, starvation. Let her starve for a few weeks and see how she likes it.

Poor doggos :(

Thanks for including the link to the video.

It is always easier to break than to make. It is always easier to harm than to heal. That's why we need ten times the makers and healers.

I’m curious about the “unrelated matter” that brought police to the home in the first place.

And she faced a previous charge of animal neglect in May 2022 after a dog had to be euthanized.

Is that relevant?

What does relevant have to do with anything?

Besides, maybe it is relevant. You don't know unless you're curious and ask

Thanks for the laugh. I'm going to be chuckling all day over this one.
