Althea Garrison decides she's not done yet

Just a year ago, the perpetual candidate said she was hanging up her nominating petitions and retiring from running every year. But Garrison tells CommonWealth Beacon (scroll down a bit) the only reason she's not running for anything this year is because she's focusing on running for mayor of Boston next year.

I mean, the benefits might not be as generous, but at least you don't have to collect signatures.
Two things
1. She clearly isn't interested in the private sector or she would have done that decades ago
2. She's an octogenarian trans-woman of color, and the private sector is constantly yeeting out 60+ age groupers of any flavor.

I can't vote for Althea for Mayor of Boston. She's known but doesn't have support. I want a winner like Wu. Met her at ForestHills. Small lady. young too.

Interesting stats on her
Interesting stats on her Wikipedia page where someone has the patience to list in details all the offices she ran for. I counted 53 total, starting in 1982. Most of her runs were for the office of state rep 5th Suffolk district and city councilor.
She succeeded twice; she spent two years as state rep from 93 to 95 and just under a year as a at-large city councilor starting in 2019.
She ran for mayor once in 2001 and finished a distant third to Menino in the preliminary.
She’ll turn 84 in October.

Trans people are not a monolith. If someone thinks Ms. Garrison would not do a good job as mayor then they shouldn't vote for her. Case closed. Conversely, if they vote for her ONLY because she is trans, regardless of her policies, that really doesn't do anybody any favors either.

Unfortunately Althea appears to be a self loathing trans person. She proudly has been, and as far as I know, still is, against same sex marriage. And as a public figure, asking for my vote, she has never to my knowledge acknowledged her identity to the voting public.
I'm a gay man, and I support Althea's right to be a trans woman but I hate her politics and wish she would go away.
Another canard that has got to go
Another canard that has got to go, along with the ever-popular "all boisterous homophobes are actually secretly gay" garbage (an extremely homphobic concept in itself, if you look at it closely) is this "self loathing" business. It's thrown around simply because somebody doesn't always follow the agenda or ideology one thinks they should to fit into the LGBTQIA+ "monolith" model. I am a gay man who's ideas and politics don't always follow the LGBTQIA+ "party line", if you will, and I am anything but self loathing, I can assure you.
As for not acknowledging, Althea comes from the same era, or maybe mindset, I do, where one does not need to lead with identity, as in "trans politician", "multi-racial, queer writer", "non-binary musician", etc. The work spoke for itself. And if the work has to do with your identity, people will get the message.

It's bias when you base your support on identity
It's as much bias if I support someone running for office because they're trans as if I oppose them because they're trans (assuming they're not otherwise exactly the same as their opponent in terms of positions on issues, etc.)
People hate on Althea because she's got some loathsome positions. Doesn't matter if she's trans or not - I wouldn't want anyone with her views voting on issues that matter to me.
