GPS-enabled watch leads cops to three suspects in Grove Hall barbershop robbery, police say

Boston Police report arresting three of the four suspects in the armed holdup of everybody inside Edward's Barbershop, 479 Blue Hill Ave. in Grove Hall yesterday afternoon.

Police say the gunmen, all in black ski masks and each with his own gun, burst into the shop shortly before 4 p.m. and ordered the six people inside to give up their valuables - which included a gun and a smart watch.

Using the GPS system of the watch, police say they tracked the getaway vehicle - a courtesy Mercedes from a Somerville dealership - to Adams and Lyon streets, about a mile and a half away in Dorchester. Officers - who were already familiar with two of the suspects from past encounters - found the car parked in the driveway at 86 Adams St.:

After further investigation, officers were able to determine that the three suspects involved in the armed robbery were inside the apartment building. A perimeter was established outside, and a Code 99 [a barricade situation] was declared.

After negotiation efforts, one of the suspects was taken into custody. A short time after, a second suspect was taken into custody. A third suspect refused to exit an apartment, and a forced entry was made by SWAT in order to place the suspect into custody.

The involved apartments were secured pending a search warrant.

During the booking process, officers located two plastic bags of a brown rock substance, and five plastic bags of hard rock substance. The bags were believed to be drugs and were packaged in separate plastic bags.

James Mendes, 32, of Randolph, and Eric Hines, 32, of Roslindale, were charged with larceny of a firearm, armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, kidnapping, felony breaking and entering in the daytime and assault with a dangerous weapon, police say. Hendrick Davis, 41, of Brockton, was charged with larceny of a firearm, armed robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, felony breaking and entering in the daytime and possession of class A and class B drugs with intent to distribute.

Innocent, etc.

BPD did a great job. They arrested these guys without anyone (that I know of) being harmed.

But due to the crime spree of these alleged a-hole perps, life was disrupted all over Fields Corner for hours, not to mention the disruption to the victims in the barber shop. Dot Ave was closed from Freeport to Adams. Adams St was closed. Lyon and Linden were closed. Traffic was a clusterfxxx all over the place.

And of course, helicopters buzzed the neighborhood for hours. One helicopter was so close my house was shaking.

If you lived close, you had to endure a flash bomb used to stun the perps.

If I'm in charge of sentencing guidelines, there should be extra time for disrupting the lives of so many people.

We all know that repairing a car at the dealership vs. a private mechanic can be very costly, but this is not the way to bankroll funds to pay for service on your Mercedes.
