Northeastern adds locks to restrooms in one science building to stop prostitutes from taking care of business there
By adamg on Thu, 10/24/2024 - 9:22am
The Huntington News reports people who want to use one of the eight restrooms in the Mugar Life Sciences Building now have to first swipe their university ID on newly installed electronic locks after the building became a place to go for some paid sex. One professor said there's been no further lounge loitering since the locks were put in.

A good idea
Attended a different area college, but there were similarly unsecured bathrooms that were well-known magnets for gross behavior like this. And with gross apps like Sniffies out there, it's incredibly easy for pervs on the internet to find out about these locations. Students and everyone at the University deserve better security and schools need to wake up to how unsecure their campuses (still) are.
Like that will stop anything
The sex workers are just going to enroll as students and start taking classes to get around that "restriction". The NEU admins are going to look like dopes when there's a bunch street walkers with advanced degrees in five years.

And here I figured they were already grad students
trying to supplement their meager income.
Coeds.
Big trouble.
Keep ‘em barefoot and pregnant.

The locks are a marked improvement from the old days
There was a campus men's bathroom where I went that became a notorious cruising ground for anonymous homosexual encounters within the stalls (reportedly it was primarily international students from countries where homosexuality was oppressively punished and where such clandestine trysts were more the norm).
To address the problem the university cut the top portion of the stall doors down by several feet.
I'm not sure how others felt, but I preferred the anonymous trysts blocked from view behind a closed door over walking into a bathroom to be confronted with the twisted, contorted face of a man as he "grunts one out" on the toilet.
Brings to mind the apocryphal John Silber quote
Silber on being told there was an uptick in prostitution in Kenmore Sq. - "Why are they needed when our coeds are giving it away?"
What a shit he was.
The only time I held my nose and voted Republican was because his stink was unbearable.
