Man hit and killed by Red Line train at South Station at rush hour

Boston firefighters responded to South Station around 5:35 p.m. after somebody got on the outbound Red Line tracks at South Station and was hit by an incoming Red Line train.

About ten minutes later, after power had been shut down in both directions, firefighters found the man, dead on the tracks, under a train full of rush-hour commuters.

The MBTA began shuttle-bus service between Kendall Square and JFK/UMass as firefighters extricated his body and Transit Police investigated what happened. The T resumed train service around 7:45 p.m.
