When cold attacks, the Red Line cracks

The frigid day dawned on the Red Line this morning, which had some track crack near Charles/MGH this morning, but crews were able to repair it, the MBTA reports.

A cracked rail can be repaired? It doesn't need to be totally replaced? And does that mean it will now be a slow zone (maybe it already is)
