When your tap water is hot, hot, hot

Sampan reports on a recent Boston Water and Sewer Commission meeting in Chinatown about both water-main breaks and flooding caused by blocked storm drains, but adds one Leather District resident complained about his tap water "reaching temperatures of nearly 100 degrees."

I recall that the steam plant is very near here, off Kneeland Street. Could there be a leak between the steam pipe and the water main? Or a lack of heat insulation between the two?

Doesn't hot water come from a water heater in your house or building? That wouldn't be the Cities fault.

It sounds like the incoming water from the street that would usually be cold was hot. Maybe a steam leak is heating the water main? Either way that could be bad news, I can't imagine what all stuff in those pipes getting warm when they have been cold their entire life. Just think of the gross stuff that is probably going to plug up all sorts of things in the houses.
