Isn't Gilchrest's where you typically go for a dog and a root beer, before shopping for a new girdle?

Gilchrists, which stood on the location where the Corner Mall is now, was famous for it's macaroons, the way Jordan Marsh was for it's blueberry muffins.
It was also mentioned in the original version of Jonathan Richman's "Fly Into the Mystery". Yes casual listener, he has other songs besides "Roadrunner".
Gilchrist's.

I was down there when this happened and saw 4-5 firetrucks. Seems like overkill now for what it was, though I'm sorry for the woman who got hit.
In case anyone was wondering...

I remember in the early 2000’s walking down Washington St. and they were hanging a sign on the Paramount side near the then decrepit theater (if I recall) and they smashed the windows and rained glass below. I know, I know big whoop.

Winter St is a wasteland. And Tremont right around Winter as well.
I work by the Paramount - lots of empty storefronts there as well. Has anyone ventured into the new radio station, WNDR? (I know, it's not a radio station, it's a museum of some sort. But it has the call letters lol. But it does look a little seedy with the windows all covered up in what looks like construction design.)

and investors. Fascinating they don't put more pressure on city hall to clean up DTX quality of life issues. It's like they don't give an F. What are they up to?
A little too on the nose, isn't it?

The only time I walk on that side of Winter Street is when I'm doing Christmas shopping. I've got a couple nieces that when they were young loved that girly clothes shop just after the Corner Mall. I'm more a numbers store side of the street guy. What were we talking about?
Oh Yeah; Sucks to be that lady. Hope she recovers soon.
