A pair of real-estate investment firms say they will soon file plans for a 15-story, 438-room hotel next to the existing Aloft and Element hotels on D Street, across from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.
In a letter of intent filed yesterday with the Boston Planning Department, Davidson Kempner Capital Management of New York and the Global Hospitality Management Group of Los Angeles say they would also reconfigure the Element Hotel to add an extra 20 rooms within its existing footprint. The two current hotels now have a total of 510 rooms
The new hotel would use an existing parking lot on the 5.6-acre site, and would have a long-term lease with the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority.
The authority bought the parcel in 2012 from a developer that had planned its own hotel on the land, but never built it. That developer in turn had purchased from another developer that won approval for a large apartment building, then never built it.

The Convention Center is going to be like Night of The Comet most of the year once Hair Furor solidifies control.
