Jamaica Plain World's Fair

Adam and family take in the fair (he posts some pics). He adds:

... Toward the end, I saw a dreadlocked Jamaican Rastafarian driving a big van who needed to get past a road block into the pedestrian area. A crew-cut Boston cop approached the van, and I was bracing myself for racial profiling and intense scrutiny. I was pleasantly surprised when the cop just waved the guy on after he indicated where he was headed.

This is what I like so much about Jamaica Plain — it's as progressive as any of the more lefty areas of the country (Ann Arbor, Madison, Berkeley), but quite racially and socioeconomically diverse.

Abbyladybug posts some World's Fair photos, too, as well as some other JP snaps.

Whole lotta e-mail

If you'd e-mailed David recently, could you write him again?

Aaagh -- somehow, my entire backlog of 39,000 emails vanished: can't for the life of me figure out what happened, and I haven't backed up that file for a month (your prayers to Norton Volume Recovery would be appreciated).

More New Orleans photos

John posts a whole mess of New Orleans photos (but still no word on just what he's doing down there).

Eileen McNamara, hidden treasure

Johnny loves the way Eileen McNamara connected two recent front-page Globe stories on the homeless -one about us welcoming newly homeless people from New Orleans, the other about us forcing longtime homeless people in the Back Bay out of their overpass encampments:

... Translation: Cut the shit, you hypocritical bastards! I saw the same two articles that day, and then went on to not see inconsistency McNamara points out. That's why she's Eileen McNamara and I'm going back to grad school. Not to sound too sycophantic here, but this woman is seriously underappreciated around here. Why is that? Just because she doesn't whore herself out on TV and radio? She's a civic treasure, but people would rather hear themselves on the Chump Line. ...

My standard newspaper disclosure.

Helping New Orleans evacuees on Cape Cod

Otto's Angels is collecting warm clothes for Camp Edwards evacuees who probably aren't used to our, um, brisk falls and winters. They're also organizing fundraisers to buy clothing and needed supplies for New Orleans evacuees down south.

But do the doors recycle?

Eeka reports on an Orange Line announcement this morning:

IF THERE ISN'T ROOM IN THE CAR, WATCH THE DOORS

Earlier:
These doors do recycle.
