City Council to consider honoring fire lieutenant who died in crash and telling annoyed Charlestown yuppies to shut it

The City Council tomorrow considers a proposal by Council President Michael Ross to designate Huntington Avenue between Longwood and Ruggles as Lt. Kevin M. Kelley Avenue, in honor of the fire officer who died on Jan. 9 when the brakes on his firetruck failed on a steep Mission Hill Street.
The council is also scheduled to consider a resolution by Councilors Sal LaMattina and Steve Murphy to support "the preservation of the USS Constitution’s heritage and time-honored traditions of daily gun salutes and playing of the national anthem in Boston's Charlestown Navy Yard."
The council meeting begins at noon in the fifth-floor council room in City Hall.

So the section on which he died won't be named after him, but the section just NE of there will be?
And I presume it's going to be one of those fake secondary names where no one's going to call it that anyway? Much like how it's already allegedly called "Avenue of the Arts"? HOW MANY NAMES DOES THIS DAMN STREET NEED?!
Name the whole thing after the dude or just don't.

And yeah, no one will refer to that section of the street as such, but it's still a nice gesture, and pretty harmless.
Firehouse
The firehouse he was part of (the busiest in Boston) is located on the stretch of Huntington between Ruggles & Longwood. Believe me, my dorm was literally next to it.
I think renaming that portion of Huntington is stupid though. They should rename Parker Hill Avenue (the street the firetruck went flying down before smashing into Mission Park) after him or something.

Yikes, they're honoring the guy. This is a good thing.
How about a win-win:
we get the boys to affix signal flags to the yardarms of Old Ironsides saying "STFU" to the delicate snowflakes in the neighborhood.

Ross in pandering...
Mike Ross is the biggest pandering to the Fire Department. Got to love it. First Ross turns his back on the Fire Department as Menino's handpicked council prez and then turns around with this pandering measure.
This guy should focus more on cleaning house in his office than worrying about naming streets. Hello Felix Arroyo, Sr. Come on ross we have severe budget crisis, schools falling apart, kids getting shot in the street and you are re-naming streets and passing resolutions to protect "Old Ironsides"? Where are your balls and commonsense? If you cannot roll up your sleeves and do the work that needs to be done, get out of office you fraud!
In defense of proclamations
How much time do you think he spent on honoring some guy who not only died in the line of duty but did so in such a way that nobody else did?
The whole renaming thing took, maybe, three minutes out of today's meeting.
The cannonball thing took a bit longer. Ten minutes, perhaps. And only because both LaMattina and Feeney felt compelled to harangue about non-townies.
