Speaking of which, why doesn't UH cover other police districts with the same intensity as they do E-7? There definitely is news concerning Dorchester, but you never see anything about Back Bay or Beacon Hill. Those are definitely not crime-free areas.
First, are people really getting punched in the head a couple times a week on Beacon Hill?
That having been said, A-7 (not E-7) is simply very good at publishing crime notes. They even have their own Web site (although it's been a bit spottier of late).
Other districts are just not so comprehensive. C-6 (South Boston, mostly), used to send out weekly e-mail alerts with all the comparable crimes, but they stopped doing that a few months ago, at least via the Citizen Alert system that was supposed to be used for just that purpose. Ditto for E-5 (West Roxbury/Roslindale), but maybe that's because most of the alerts were essentially the same: More cars/houses broken into because the owners didn't lock their doors at night.
The captain in E-13 has started posting stuff on the JP neighbors for Neighbors site.
BPDNews is a must read for the crime obsessed, but they are very selective: While they do post about all murders and major incidents (see today's post about the gang shooting at that Dorchester elementary school), they don't post about basic quality-of-life stuff, such as "routine" A&Bs.
So East Boston gets a bit of an unfair reputation among people who read Universal Hub, simply because they're better at reporting than the other districts (see the latest stats - East Boston doesn't seem out of line with other districts). But while there are certainly muggings in other neighborhoods (Wicked Local seems to do a decent job with the crime news in Allston/Brighton and Roslindale and West Roxbury), the head-punching thing seems to be unique to East Boston.
Algerian community out in force downtown, too. I was walking through Boston Common half an hour-ish ago listening to my pod when I hear honking. Non. Stop. It was pretty cool. At first I thought it was politics related. It reminded me of being out in the streets after the sox won in 2004. I love sh-... shtuff like that when a huge group of people are just feeling great.
MY WIFE and I were walking to the Celts game last night, past the Haymarket area, and we saw a big crowd waving banners, tooting horns, etc., outside of an ethnic market (I'd give the name, but can't remember it) and we wondered if it was some sort of protest. I mentioned to MY WIFE that it looked more like a sporting rally of some sort, but we had no idea what it could have been. Thanks for clearing that up for us!
Long story short, I started referring to her in all caps a long while back on a TV review site I was contributing to at the time. I kept it up on my current blog. Now I just do it all the time, wherever I post anything. I hardly think of it. My fingers just automatically go to the 'shift' key when I write it :-)
Funny. Reminds me of the SNL skits where Fred Armisen plays Gov. David Patterson. Of course his eyes are not trained on the camera while he's talking, but then all of a sudden he'll say NEW JERSEY and look right at the camera.
Anyway, cheers.

Wow
Did District E7 just make UH news for something other than a stabbing or "head punching"?
Progress!
Oh, er, um
If you hadn't posted that, I might not have remembered to look at the latest report from A-7 - there are a couple of entries in there ...

Couple of things going on here.

Drove down Newbury Street
Kind of funny until about three in a row ran the red light and almost nailed the guy pulling across Dartmouth Street.

Went to a Celts game with you. That's very nice of YOUR WIFE.
