If so many people in Massachusetts are against the war, how come hardly anybody shows up at an anti-war rally?

John Daley suspects it's because the local anti-war movement has been hijacked by the loonie left:
... With speakers flinging four-letter words from the bandstand, advocating dismantling the state and later, upon seeing police bikes along Tremont Street, exclaim over the PA, "I didn't know pigs could ride bikes," it's no wonder that mainstream (or in this case, all) politicians and most working people stayed away.

maybe if the organizers waived their requirements that the protestors have no jobs, ponytails, and trust funds they would have a larger presence

I usually avoid reading John Daley's blog posts, but I do have to say something here, as someone who is against this war and not "loonie." Honestly, the anti-war protests seem sort of fruitless at this point...especially in Boston. At first, I'd go to lots of anti-war protests, but it seemed like we were preaching to the choir. And it's even moreso now, where support for the war is dwindling even more. Do we NEED to rally? Is that the best use of time for the anti-war movement?

I'm all for calling cops "pigs", but that doesn't even qualify as an actual joke. These protesters are going to have to get a better handle on comedy if they want anyone to pay attention... as well as a basic grasp of history, spelling, world civics, hygiene, economics, and coming up with better chants with more plausible rhyme schemes. But I bet they had lots of fun anyway, as well as a number of Venti Lattes paid for via Debit card, because that’s what civil unrest is all about, man.

don't attack the protesters. that will bring out a vicious attack by certain posters. and definitely do not mention the word "ponytail".
There are a number of reasons why anti-war rallies are so
sparsely atttended in Boston, as well as many other parts of the country, generally:
A) Some of the tactics that protesters have used, such as blocking traffic and illegally occupying buildings, have put a lot of people off, alienating possible potential support for their cause. Tactics such as blocking traffic and illegally occupying buildings, imo, are rude, counterproductive, and generally tick people off all the more.
B) Since much, if not most political activism is carried out online these days, rallies and protests are not nearly as much in vogue as they once were.
C) The use of excessive force by police has also helped intimidate many people into not demonstrating in the street anymore.
