Heading out, to take part in a panel discussion at the Park Plaza on how reporters can write effectively for online ("write well!" I'll urge them, and then sit down to await their encomiums). Since something big seems to happen every single time I go into radio silence (like this, which happened while I was on a panel about blogging), I've left this open thread for news as it happens.

Like the job UHub is doing? Consider a contribution. Thanks!

Every weather broadcaster in the Boston area is wishing they lived in D.C. right about now.

Oh well guys, can't win 'em all.

I'm glad it's not just me noticing this...but is EVERY news spewer basically getting their news from like 3 guys in DC these days or something? Is that why this storm is causing a freaking story at the head of every news broadcast up here? You'd think the new digital antennae reached DC or something with the amount of coverage this storm is getting here...where it's completely a non-story! It's like they're trying to find some sort of "angle" on the snowstorm that affects Boston.

"Scott Brown's swearing in happened yesterday...good thing too, because they might have had to wait until AFTER the weekend with the weather they're getting down there!"

"We're a few inches of snow above normal for the year so far...but could you imagine where that total would be if we got the 20+ inches about to happen in DC!"

"Accident on the Pike heading westbound this afternoon rush hour...but at least it wasn't due to 2 feet of snow that they're getting down in Baltimore right now!"

Sigh.

the boston globe is reporting that police comissioner edward davis fired now-former-officer justin barrett over the email he sent refferring to henry louis gates jr. as a "banana-eating jungle monkey".

barrett is, of course, suing for violations of his civil rights (among other things).
