An important week for a lot of Boston school kids

Not only is this the week parents of would-be pre-schoolers and kindergarteners learn their school assignments, it's the week sixth graders learn if they got into one of the exam schools.
The kidlet knew when she saw both me and her mother at the bus stop this afternoon we'd gotten a letter from BPS - because I almost never pick her up. And she knew right away by the grins on our faces that it was an acceptance letter. And then she surprised me, if not her mom, by saying immediately she wanted to go to Latin. So the next adventure begins.

Too much drama
This is one reason we chose not to buy in Boston many years ago. We had friends with kids older than ours who had to spend a lot of time and energy getting them into the right schools on what seemed like a yearly basis.

I waited - it's her life we're talking about here and she certainly deserved to know about it first.
I think you might be exaggerating a bit about the homework - it's only 21 hours a night.
Latin Academy was at least 18...
Yup, I remember that day in March of 1984 when my mother brought the letter with her when she did lunch duty at MPB. I was hoping for Latin School, but getting accepted to Latin Academy wasn't a bad deal. It certainly saved my parents a TON of money...three brothers went to the exam schools (two BLA, one BLS) and one decided to take four years at Catholic Memorial PLUS four years at a private college in New Hampshire.
The kidlet will enjoy it.

Hey, congratulations to the kidelt, and enjoy the odyssey about to begin. We had good news, too, with our third child getting a K1 assignment in the same school as our other children. We are now awaiting the results of the advanced work assignment for our oldest.

My daughter is in the 7th grade there. It was exciting and scary at the same time because of the size of the school and the workload. However, my daughter and her friends have all adjusted well and I am sure your daughter will too.
