The D Line must have been jealous

11:30 update: MBTA says trolley service has resumed.

The MBTA has just announced that they are busing between Reservoir and Fenway stations on the D line due to a tree that has fallen on the tracks.

I think at this point, we have to ask: Why do trees hate the Green Line? And are they starting to gang up on it?

I was going to hop the 66 bus at Brigham Circle to Harvard Square, but I noticed the LCD screen on the front read "66 to Brighton Center." (Typically the screen says "66 to Harvard Square.) Wonder if this has anything to do with the fallen tree..

It used to be that the 66 had a couple of runs each day that went to Brighton Center instead of Harvard Square. I think it was connected to high school student transportation, and it is likely still in place. Similarly, the 39 has a couple of runs that do not go to Copley Square, but instead terminate at Boston Latin. I don't think the schedules actually contain that information, though.

The Route 66 schedule:
http://www.mbta.com/uploadedFiles/Documents/Schedu...

does show 11 trips between 6:22 and 7:00 AM that do go from Dudley to Brighton Center instead of Harvard, and only run on days when school is in session.

Huh - I had no idea, because I travel in the opposite direction, but that's still the case: there are 11 runs between 6:22 and 7 every weekday morning that go from Dudley to Brighton Center. There are two back from there at 2:27pm, and an afternoon run in the opposite direction that serves Madison Park High.

If a tree doesn't fall on the Green Line, will there still be delays?

(rhetorical question)

Right of Way maintenance=more trouble with trees.

Good thing the tree didn't fall just in front of a moving train.

(for a bunch of supposed environmental reasons) for the T to do even basic trimming of trees along their right of way, let alone removing ones that are about to topple onto the tracks.
