Skara Grill on Centre Street, which opened last March, has closed its doors forever. Apparently, there just wasn't enough of a market for Greek food in the area - even though neighboring Roslindale has one of the largest Greek communities in the state.
H/t to the Tweetster who let me know.

I HATE to see this!

I don't live nearby but in any case, I hate to see any small business owner bust their butt, put out (apparently, from Adam's initial review) a good product, then lose everything. Granted fewer people can afford to dine out these days, but I wish they could have stayed in business and have a few more Friendly's close instead.
No disrespect

to the owners as I always want to see local business do well but the food was not that good. I feel badly that they put the time and money into this place but you put out a good product and people come back. You put out a not so great product and people don't return.

I picked up some youvesti just Thursday.
Wasn't the best Greek food I've ever had but
I'm still sad to see them go.

I loved their gyros but the rest of the menu was uneven. still, i enjoyed eating there. affordable, nice atmosphere. we hadn't been there in 5 or 6 months, mainly because there are better options elsewhere.

This is a business that could have benefitted from delivery. As a JP resident, I received several take-out menus from Skara, but no delivery menus. Considering that neither my life nor those of several of my neighbors take us into Skara's neck of the woods, the only way we would have been exposed to them would have been through delivery. Sami's on Centre Street at least has the foot traffic to remain viable. Skara couldn't say the same. Very sad.
They didn't make good food.

Period. If you don't have good food, you fail.
Then why is Friendly's still around?

Their food sucks out loud. yet they're expanding into Coolidge Corner.

Skara replaced a Friendly's that closed awhile back.
It's too bad about Skara Grill - they did a great job fixing up the building & the area around it.
Like i said many times before!!

Skara Grill SUCKED!! It sucked so bad Greeks wouldn't even eat that shit!!!! I hope that building stays vacant and becomes a eye sore for a long time so when people walk/drive by they say " And why did friendly's close?" Adam a the risk of repeating yourself again, tell everyone why Friendly's close ! :) So much for growing your own veggies in the parking lot!!!

No idea why Friendly's closed, but I know my family stopped eating at that location after they gave my grandmother food poisoning. Skara, on the other hand, was tasty at a reasonable price.

Billings, I don't know what crawled up your ass and made you so cranky. Curious as to why someone would seemingly take such pleasure in seeing a family business fail, I took the liberty of tracking your other comments on this site. What I found was an endless list of unbearably whiny ramblings that included a racist remark in response to a young man's death and suggestion that one should kick puppies at millenium park. Why are you such a loser? And moderators, why do you put up with this crap? Do us all a favor and cut this a-hole off, please!

Billings are you okay? The pain of a small business failure is enough for the owner, they don't need some insensitive goon to make the pain worse. The market made it's decision.
Right!

Well one of you said it. I'm Greek w/a big fat Greek family and we each tried to like it...on several occassions. The food wasn't good...not much more to say! It's not the economy, have you guys seen how busy all the restaurants are at Legacy Place? That Skara spot needs to be more WR: more casual, family friendly w/lower prices. People who own the Greek grill on Needham Street in Newton should move into Skara!

The shades are drawn. When you walk by you can smell the Giro on the spit and baklava pastry in the oven. Are they using it to do catering?

Guys just for the sake of argument I am Greek, and this place was the only place in Boston with such great Greek food. Most of the greek restaurants around here are a fusion of american and greek cuisine which is usually very unnatural. Only other bright example I can find is esperia grill, which still is not as good as Skara has been. At least give them the credit, they really tried to have a great business, it is so that the product they made was not what the customers wanted eventhough it was of great quality!

I liked it quite a bit -- both food and atmosphere. The appetizer sampler was fantastic. I'm glad to know it was authentic, just as I am saddened to lose it as a dining option in my neighborhood.
Doomed to Fail

My sister and I were among the first to eat at this new Greek restaurant, but after 2 disappointing and expensive visits we gave up all hope that there would ever be truly, authentic and delicious Greek food coming from their kitchen. While it is sad that it closed, it did not surprise us.
All the food was at best mediocre, so it is no wonder that the local Greeks gave up on it! The Greek key to success would have been if they had served fewer, tastier and more authentic items. A simple gyro made with ripe, fragment tomatoes, fresh parsley, onions, properly marinated and grilled meat with a rich yogurt sauce would have been enough to keep them afloat. They couldn't even do this right. How I miss the Aegean Fare and the Cafe Olympia!
