The King is dead?
By adamg on Sat, 09/25/2010 - 2:01pm
The King on Centre Street in West Roxbury was shut tight at lunch today. Plus, it has a small sign in the window advertising the impending arrival of what just sounds like a Chinese restaurant. So no more good, cheap Middle Eastern food on Centre? Oh, well, there's always Al Wadi on the VFW Parkway (which is very good, but not cheap).

wow
already? samia's was there for years, i assume they did ok business. i wonder what the story is.
in my hometown in Ohio there
in my hometown in Ohio there was a place called the Tiger Deli, which was the best place for quality, inexpensive middle eastern food, so there's no reason to ditch hope just based on the name.
(I know that ohio isn't a high standard for most ethnic foods but this is a city with a considerable population of lebanese and middle eastern immigrants)
Shhh
Might want to keep this quiet or a bank will be moving in by next week.
I feel bad for the fact that
I feel bad for the fact that they closed but the honest truth is their falafel was horrible. I like to support local business' but they aren't going to get my money if the food isn't good.
They microwaved their falafel...'nuff said.
sigh...
I don't know this place but microwaved falafel? I was over in Watertown this weekend and lamenting the fact that we do NOT have good Middle Eastern food on this side of Boston (I'm in JP). I was holding out hope for Sami's but I've been pretty disappointed. I love Bob's Pita in Roslindale Square for groceries, but I wish there was one really good falafel/schwarma place a la the old Reef Cafe in Allston-Brighton.
What's wrong with Sami's?
I've only been there once, and I'm no shawarma expert, but it seemed OK, so I'm curious.
Seriously, Sami's?
Have to question that criticism. I used to live on McDougal St. in the West Village and was surrounded by outstanding falafel and shwarma places. A cool 280 miles away, Sami's would still make my Top 10.
The King doesn't consult with the Mayor?
As the (Four Square) mayor of the King, I must say that I'm terribly disappointed but given that I became mayor after only about a half dozen visits and was never ousted, I guess I can understand why this may have happened.
