Guardian Angels make another token appearance in Boston
By adamg on Tue, 10/12/2010 - 7:29am
Nothing at all to do with headlines about quadruple murders, organizer insists:
"We didn't want to make it seem like we're capitalizing on a bad event," Grace said. "That would have been impeccably bad timing if we did."
For now, the group is putting volunteers on the street from Brockton and Florida, until they can find Boston volunteers who aren't convicted sex offenders.

Guardian Angels also in usually-quiet suburb of Malden
after a spate of shootings there last week. Here's the Globe story. A friend of mine lives on Laurel Street and is very rattled by the shooting there last week.
Usually quiet? Suburb?
This is Malden we're talking about?
I think they have the right idea
Malden's troubles are more random drug-related incidents and muggings than gang activity. These are crimes that are highly amenable to having people roving the street at all hours patrolling the neighborhoods. Bonus points if their presence means people feel safer moving about because that's even more eyes and ears and activity that makes mayhem less attractive.
I live in an adjacent community and my teen son has a lot of friends in the border areas of Medford. The nearest shops, food zones, etc. are in Malden, where they frequently wander on foot. They very often don't even realize that they have walked as far as Malden Center from North Medford. So long as the Angels are not hassling people making their way around, and not getting in the way of the Police, I'm glad that there are people wandering around with likely good intent.
What works better against your well armed sociopath?
A Kevlar vest and a Browning Hi-Power or good intentions?
The Bible says turn the other
The Bible says turn the other cheek. However, you are right of course. If an evil-doer is stopped by a citizen in self-defense, ideally they are simply restrained or rendered unconscious, but what about those of us who don't have those options? If an innocent life is taken, they are said to go to heaven. Is the same true in reverse? If you kill an attacker/criminal,etc..., what happens to them? And is justice truly just, or only for the rich or powerful?
The Guardian Angels know they're not wanted up here in Boston.
Why do they insist on coming?
saw them on the Orange Line
So they were coming from Malden? Glad they got off at downtown crossing to leave me in peace to continue my ride to the safe sanctuary of Forest Hills...
