A man banned from the T in 2008 for groping women was arraigned today in Boston Municipal Court on charges he groped a woman on the Green Line Thursday afternoon, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
According to an MBTA Transit Police report, Jacob Shin, 36, of Newton, and his alleged victim were on an outbound D trolley around 5:45 p.m. when Shin moved closer to her as the train approached Hynes. Police say Shin then put his hand high up on her inner thigh. Shin allegedly said "Sorry," when the woman told him to knock it off. He then got off the train at Hynes, the report says.
The report continues that police showed the woman video of passengers leaving through the station fare gates. When she picked out a suspect, police were able to call up his CharlieCard information, which said it was registered to Shin. He was arrested and charged with indecent assault and battery around 5:45 p.m.
Shin pleaded innocent at his arraignment. Judge Tracy-Lee Lyons set bail at $5,000 and ordered that if Shin makes bail he has to stay off the T and wear a GPS monitoring device, the District Attorney's office says.
Innocent, etc.

first off, fuck the dude for tryin to feel up chicks. but when i read this story its kind of creepy how they were able to call up his info because he used a charlie card. i guess if you want to stay anonymous you'd have to get an empty card and only refill it with cash.
if they used Charlie Card info to Catch him, then...

...why the shit couldn't they use Charlie Card information to stop him from buying a charlie card, if he was banned from using the T in the first place?
Anyone can get an anonymous Charlie Card

That's not anonymous, even if you never connect use a credit card to fill it up.
Correlate with video surveillance in and out of station, photo ID records, locations and times card was used or sniffed, cellphone movements (towers, GPS, various location tracking by various parties in smartphone apps/services), sniffed RFID from other cards you might be carrying.
Great for catching criminals, bad for protecting society from abuses of power.
But he didn't....

"police were able to call up his CharlieCard information, which said it was registered to Shin."
If he were banned from the T, they should have caught him when he first registered it.
Yes, he could have paid with cash but he was too stupid.
Not that I'm profiling anyone,

but when you see a weirdo like him, like most of the other mugshots of these creeps, wouldn't you keep your distance?
Please tell me you're not blaming the victim here

From the article, he approached her- she was just sitting and minding her own business in a public place.
What's she supposed to do, get off the car because some weird guy get on? And sounds like she didn't exactly sit there passively when he put the moves on her.
how?

If you're at all familiar with the Green Line, you'll know that there is absolutely nothing atypical about that guy's appearance.

Lots of people look numb or broken on the Green Line D, especially when the weather is hot or very cold, and when the train is packed over capacity.
Except for the students, who are always noisy and oblivious, and often sneaking on.
Wait how were they able to call up his info if

He was LEAVING through the gates? Doesn't it only record the CharlieCard when you enter through them?

I'm sure it's a facial recognition system which shows whenever he first entered the T system.

ANKLE BRACELET

A Charlie Card is better than an ankle brcelet for tracking perverts. Is this leading us down the slippery slope of loosing our privacy. Can private investigators obtain this information for divorce cases, are bosses allowed to track the movement of their employees if they pay for their Charlie Cards.
Are students tracked by truant offices throughout the system are suburban schools able to kick out city kids if they follow the kids student passes from their house.

Privacy is an illusion, and anyone who actually thinks they have it needs to look a little deeper.
