D line shut down, buses, commuter rail delayed, MBTA Web site dead
By adamg on Thu, 01/27/2011 - 8:22am
Buses along the D this morning after a trolley decided it couldn't stand being on the tracks any longer (Ed. question: At Reservoir?).
People who want updated T alerts should follow the MBTA on Twitter.
8:45 update: MBTA.com is back up with delay information.

Phew
There you are, Adam. Thought you got lost in the snow or something. Funny how reliant I've become on UHub for Boston tidbits, gossip, and breaking news ...
I'd like to say I was caught in the storm
As I struggled on hands and knees up the unplowed mountain road in the howling winds to the Universal Hub transmitter to type this report as I try to melt the ice off my hands and face by the weak glow of the potbelly stove.
But, um, no, it's just that with the kidlet on another snow day, I slept in.
Server crash
Sorry folks, it's my fault the server went down. I had to check service alerts, so of course it pooped the bed when I needed it.
I blame Boston.com
Perhaps boston.com shouldn't put a huge headline link at the top of their homepage making people think it's going to an article about the D Line issues, when it's really just a link to the mbta site.
I'm sure the extra traffic doesn't help.
Not to mention..
The Silver Line time arrival info boards at bus stops on Washington St have been reporting a detour (due to a water main break) that ended on Monday. No time arrival information has been given since at least Sunday.
T alerts running late, too.
I just now (10:15) received an alert time-stamped 9:11. Perhaps there's a logjam in the mail queue from all the alerts? But really, what's the point of having an alert system if, on one of the worst mornings of the year, the messages can't reach customers quickly?
At least two trains
on the Reading/Haverhill line (the 8:00 and 8:30 trains out of Reading) were cancelled with nary a peep about it from either the station LED signs or the T Alert system.
Ended up taking a bus to Oak Grove, and the Orange Line from there into downtown. The streets were clear enough so the bus made good time. The Orange Line wasn't too bad either, except for the fact that our train was slowed by the inexplicable need to swap operators at Malden, Wellington, and Sullivan Square.
