"Near Mission Hill" is sort of misleading. Kenney Street is pretty squarely in JP, tucked in behind the VA Hospital and just a few minutes walk from Centre Street.
Kenney Street is pretty obviously near Mission Hill if its tucked in behind the VA Hospital which is right on the line. It looks like its also a few minutes walk to Heath Street and Mission Hill. Its not right on the border, but it is "near".
The first I heard of this was from somebody closer to Green Street who reported lots of sirens heading up Lamartine toward Stony Brook. From that perspective, and based on the fact that Kenney is not a major thoroughfare that everybody's heard of, I went with "near Mission Hill."
According to the Boston Globe, this woman in her thirties may have died of apparent head trauma injuries. My question to you would be: what made you believe this person was a 'possible shooting victim'? Why not, 'spontaneous combustion victim' or 'possible human sacrifice', too? Was it that you assumed that someone who was found dead in Jamaica Plain would obviously have died by gunfire?
Police initially responded to a report of a person shot; hence my headline. I suspect that, initially, a head-trauma victim looks similar to somebody shot in the head. You'll note the initial time on my post wasn't all that long after the discovery of the body.
I've updated the post to reflect the Globe article, and am hoping that whatever happened to the poor woman, she went quickly.
...it is amazing to see what people are concentrating on. You should call it this, it's closer to that, how dare you say "possible (potentially inaccurate cause of death)" in an initial report.
Cherish your loved ones, tell your family often that you love them, and carry a GPS and sheafs of local maps at all times so that if the unthinkable happens when you're out and about, you'll at least know what neighborhood the unthinkable happened in.
I live on Kenney. When I noticed all of the police cars I immediately went to Twitter to see what UH was reporting. Adam, you are on top of things. Furthermore, I hope the police are able to find out what happened to this poor woman. Very sad news.
Since you guys live on Kenney St, please settle the argument. Is Kenney St near Mission Hill? Or is closer to Hyde Square? And while we have you, do you consider yourselves "pondsiders" and less gritty and hip than those living near Egleston or Hyde squares?

Why not just say Kenney
Why not just say Kenney Street in the Hyde Square neighborhood of JP?
Why I wrote that
The first I heard of this was from somebody closer to Green Street who reported lots of sirens heading up Lamartine toward Stony Brook. From that perspective, and based on the fact that Kenney is not a major thoroughfare that everybody's heard of, I went with "near Mission Hill."
Does it really matter?
The important facts are the actual street where the body was found and that somebody died/was killed there.
If you're selling real estate...
...it does.
Nearer Hyde Square; Nearer
Nearer Hyde Square; Nearer Angell Memorial/MSPCA. Walk through the V.A. parking lot through the gate in the fence to Kenney Street.

To be blamed on the incoming Whole Foods and the gentrification and hipster apocalypse.
How is this a possible shooting victim?

No, I didn't make an assumption

whatever the cause of this tragedy...

Can't you see Adam? This is all your fault.
This nails it. Someone dies
This nails it. Someone dies and people are quibbling about neighborhoods?
On Truck Day, no less...
the most sacred of days. Have these people no priorities?
This is a lesson for us all

Someone kick your doggie?
Someone kick your doggie?
Can I be a gritty pondsider?
Can I be a gritty pondsider? I am pro-Whole Foods so I can't be too hip.
gritty hipsters FYI
in JP South we are also gritty, but more in a LL Bean field coat wearing way, as opposed to a Carhartt or Dickies wearing way.
*eyes LL Bean catalog that arrived today*
Sigh. 'Tis true.
Kenney St.
is in Hyde Square. I wouldn't consider it pondside.
Agreed.
I also come to UH first for my news. I saw it on your (Adam's) twitter.
Thanks for doing this.
It's more like Mission Valley
