State probes crashing light fixtures of doom in O'Neill Tunnel

Don't you just love it when tunnels named after pols start falling apart? So appropriate. Between O'Neill and Moakley, they'll be killing people for generations. I am puzzled that there's no Kennedy Bridge.

to connect the frame of the light fixture to the frame mounted into the tunnel roof sounds like another example of "innovative design" gone bad.

Sort of like using epoxy to anchor bolts that are under constant tension to a tunnel ceiling. And, unfortunately, we all saw how well that concept worked.

They just bought the wrong stuff, used it anyway, and blamed the vendor because the vendor/manufacturer didn't contribute to Martha's campaign funds.

After the supposed "stem-to-stern" inspection of the tunnel system after the tragic and inexcusable ceiling-tile incident, you'd think something like this would've been caught. They should all be drawn and quartered.

It's possible that the prior inspection (when Romney was still office, if that's what you're referring to) didn't yield any signs of the so-called corrosion.

My question is, was that the last time they did a complete inspection? Because to not do complete inspections of our shittily built tunnel at least annually is what's really deplorable to me.

In yesterday's press conference it was mentioned that the lights are looked at every year, but it didn't occur to anyone to reach up and wiggle them to see if something came loose. Sounds like there is a new wiggle protocal being put in place.

Given the shoddy workmanship so far in evidence, they should be wiggling, poking and prodding. An x-raying. And testing concrete. And...

But if they wiggle and tug TOO much the whole damn thing will collapse. The entire project has made me sick from day one, and it's the gift that keeps on giving.
